Press, Flex, Relax presented by Drug Aware are looking for emerging artists and writers based in Boorloo (Perth) to participate in an upcoming Zine project funded by Propel Youth Arts WA.
Press, Flex, Relax project will provide a space for 9 emerging artists and writers to create work around what they find helpful in moments where you feel pressure. It’s aim is to put focus on this idea of grounding, because we feel like it isn’t something that we always put a lot of attention on. We want it to be a space where people don’t have to talk about anything uncomfortable, but somewhere to reflect on what helps in difficult moments.
Being grounded means being balanced and present within yourself and your surroundings. Achieving this state can be influenced by tactile elements such as cement and soil. Or intangible qualities like tuning in to a singular noise or smell. It is also affected by how we move our body - with purpose, meaning and awareness.
The zine will be exhibited online as a part of Bedroom Mountain programming, and slow arts festival by Paper Mountain. Hard copies will be for sale on the website at a sliding scale and during the launch party in October.
TO APPLY:
A few examples of previous work (it doesn’t need to align with the theme), a few notes on what the project means to you and a short bio.
Applications due on the 31st of July.
If you need any assistance in the application process or have any other general queries, please don’t hesitate to email Ailsa or Sandra at the following emails:
