Shades and Colours with Albertina Ncube

  • State Library of WA 25 Francis Street Perth WA 6000 Australia (map)

Being a photographer of colour myself, I truly understand the importance of being able to capture the beauty of others like myself.

Shades and Colours is a photography workshop created to teach participants how to enter into their creative element by understanding how to work with models of colour in areas or locations that bring out their true and natural beauty.

Whether it be through street photography or in nature, participants will be taught how to work with natural lighting to create their own story or simply get creative. During the workshop, the photographers/attendees will also be taught how to style/dress their models.

About Albertina Thabisani Ncube

My name is Albertina Thabisani Ncube. I’m a 21 year old photographer, videographer and creative originally from Zimbabwe based in Perth, Australia. I’m the owner of ATN Event Photography and Videography but I prefer to be known as a creative.

I ventured into this industry because of my passion for storytelling through visual imagery. As a woman of colour, I tend to focus on people of melanin which was influenced by the lack of representation of “Black” people in Australia. From media to the creative industry, there is rarely any content that highlights people of colour. As a creative, my ambition is to shine a light on what was once dim and provide a platform for people of colour to recognise that we are beautiful and we are one.

Shades and Colours with Albertina Ncube is part of a workshop series for Mosaic, an annual community photography project that captures a collective narrative about a day in WA. Share your moment by registering for Capture Day happening on Sunday 6 December 2020 here.

Mosaic is presented by Propel Youth Arts WA in partnership with the City of Perth. Propel is supported by the State Government of Western Australia, through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, and Lotterywest.
