Propel Youth Arts WA as part of the Youth Week WA KickstART Festival are excited to announce a new writing mentorship program for young writers led by prolific writer and poet Maddie Godfrey.
To write is a form of mapping; mapping our stories, our movements and our thoughts as they traverse our headspaces. This mentorship opportunity invites a small group of young writers to become cartographers of their own narratives.
Over four online workshops held weekly in March 2021, a close-knit selection of young writers will meet virtually with Maddie Godfrey. Structured as a short course rather than a series of workshops, this mentorship will involve reading/listening to a variety of texts and sharing thoughts, as a communal act of nurturing new knowledge. Please note, this mentorship will encourage a collaborative spirit between participants, especially as part of the editing process. Through prompts and fun activities, Maddie will guide participants in the creation of new writing, and each participant will work towards a piece which will be published in KickstART Festival’s first online zine.
This online mentorship is ideal for any writers 16-26 who have an enthusiasm for writing and an appetite for finding new ways to tell their stories. Whether you’re based in Perth or out in a regional town, you can submit an application to participate in this once in a lifetime mentorship opportunity.
Applicants will be selected by Maddie Godfrey, in collaboration with Propel Youth Arts WA, and informed approximately one week after the application closing date.
Applications close Sunday 28 February.
