The Perth Festival Creative Weekender is back for 2023; a free, two-day, practical arts experience for creative young people in Years 9 – 12. Held at The Blue Room Theatre on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 March, students are invited to apply to Creative Weekender in one of four different artistic streams; Dance, Performance Art, Hip Hop, and Creative Writing.
Each stream of 15 students will be led by an exciting local artist from our 2023 Festival program. These artists will guide their students through a series of practical workshops to develop an idea or an artwork over the two days. Participants will also experience some cross-disciplinary workshops and panels; streams will combine to explore ideas with local artists, and there will be two talks where our teaching artists will discuss their arts practice and their career pathways.
Students can apply to one of the four following ‘streams’:
Creative Writing with Andrew Sutherland
Hip Hop with Flewnt, Tani and Optamus
Performance Art with Tami Xiang
Dance with Sofie Burgoyne
They will work with their leader and peers in their artform over 2 days, and will also see a couple of panels and a couple of cross-disciplinary workshops where they’ll collaborate with other streams. Lunch is provided as well as light snacks for M/T and A/T. Applications are first-come-first-served, and there are only 15 places per stream, so the speedier the better.
Don't miss out on these free opportunities with Perth Festival!
