Jess Emery
My name is Jess Emery and from the moment I began walking, Mum had us wandering our local bushland pointing out all sorts of crazy and colourful shapes Western Australian native plants grew. This knowledge stems from three generations of exploration starting with my Gran-nan, Eileen Croxford, who began in Albany - propagating multiple undocumented species. Then to my Nanna, Hazel Dempster, back in Perth supporting propagation at the W.A. Wildflower Society, and finally to my mother, Sue Dempster, founder of landscaping business, Western Wildflower Gardens. In the end, that makes me a part of the fourth generation and if you couldn’t tell already - plants have really been a significant influence on my life so I knew it was something I wanted to incorporate with my various practices.
Emery Bored. Designs is a small little female run business, operated solely by me as I put my hands behind everything from the small stitches on a t-shirt right down to my digital logo design and branding. I create custom made and designed garments, Western Australian native pressed flower pieces ranging from resin jewellery to glass frames and various other polymer clay earrings.
My designs focus on my early childhood as I remember running and ducking around all sorts of trees and rocks being careful not to step on any log-like homes or emerging blossoms. From here, I include bright and bold colour combinations that emerge from my piles of second hand collected fabrics. My designs are simple, yet they expand through hidden and surprising layers covered in embellishment and unique textures. Such a fun and exciting outfit of course, wouldn't be complete without a touch of the real deal, as I delve into the realm of resin set Western Australian wildflowers.
