Cindy Huynh

My name is Cindy, I’m 19 years old and currently in my 2nd year of studying Oral Health Therapy at Curtin.

I started learning how to crochet when I was in high-school, mainly because I was very bored during the summer holidays, but now it has become a really fun and relaxing hobby/creative outlet for me.

I crochet stuffed toys and plushies out of soft acrylic yarn! The Japanese word for the craft is called amigurumi.

I love to create cute versions of everyday things such as food and animals. They make really cute room decor, personalised gifts or keychains to clip onto your bag or pencil case.

It all began during the school holidays, when I as a bored 16 year old decided to pick up a crochet kit and some coloured wool from Kmart.

I started self-teaching myself how to crochet by watching lots of YouTube tutorials at home. Some of my favourite Youtubers are Flyingmio and Bella Coco. I remember one of my first projects being a cute Rilakkuma bear that I turned into a keychain for my school bag.

It took a few years of trial and error, but after mastering the basic stitches and learning how to read patterns I found crocheting to be a really fun and relaxing hobby!! I couldn’t stop crocheting, especially given all the free time during quarantine.

I mostly crocheted small gifts for my friends but after seeing how much they liked it, I recently made an Instagram account to showcase some of my projects. I decided to sign up to KicksArt makers market because I thought it would be really cool to sell some of my plushies and be apart of a community of likeminded crafters!
