Work at Propel: Project Officer

Propel Youth Arts WA is looking for a creative project professional to join our team as part-time Project Officer. If you are looking to make your next career move and are interested in joining Western Australia’s only cross-artform youth organisation, this role may be for you.

The Project Officer is integral to the establishment and delivery of multiple ambitious youth arts and culture projects across a wide range of artforms. They are responsible for coordinating key projects at Propel Youth Arts WA, including the Drug Aware YCulture Metro funding program and providing logistical support for the development and delivery of the Youth Week WA KickstART Festival.

In addition to coordinating key Propel projects, they will work with a range of stakeholders including young people, artists, partner organisations, and funding agencies. The Project Officer assists young artists in applying for grant funding, helps to recruit and manage interns and volunteers, in addition to servicing new and existing funding agreements. They will also provide general administrative support to the team and represent Propel at relevant industry events.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about young people, someone who is looking to broaden their project management experience and skills, and ideally has a background in the creative sector or arts, supported by a relevant tertiary qualification. Strong communication skills are essential, as building relationships is pivotal in this role. This role would suit someone who is pragmatic and outcomes-focused.

 

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience within the arts, youth, or youth arts environments

  • Ability to work autonomously, as part of a team, and to take initiative with your work

  • Broad knowledge of the WA arts sector and networks within local creative industries

  • Experience in planning and delivering small to medium scale projects

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

  • Sound administrative skills, including competency in Microsoft Excel

  • Demonstrated experience in grants and acquittal writing

  • Passion for young people and arts in general.

 

About Propel Youth Arts WA

Propel Youth Arts WA is the peak body for youth arts in Western Australia, working in collaboration with artists, communities, and organisations to ensure that young people are equipped to inspire arts and culture on their own terms.

Propel is a membership-based not-for-profit incorporated association established in 2003 as the Youth Arts Network and formerly known as Propelarts. Propel acts as the peak body for the youth arts sector, servicing young people aged 12 - 26 by connecting artists, youth workers, practitioners, arts collectives, and communities with relevant organisations.

Providing services and programs across all art forms, we provide access to information, networks, mentoring, skills development, and employment in the arts and creative industries to young people and those who work with them. Propel is focused on arts advocacy, skills development, and access to opportunities, for those already engaged in the arts and those who would like to be.

Applications must be received before midnight on Wednesday 24 November 2021 in order to be eligible.

Propel will assess all applications received and invite shortlisted applicants to attend an interview during the week beginning Monday 29 November 2021. Unsuccessful applicants who are not shortlisted will be notified via email.

After the interview process, the successful applicant will be notified by phone and sent a written offer of appointment, with the position commencing from the week starting Tuesday 4 January 2022. Unsuccessful shortlisted candidates will also be notified via phone.
