The Youth Week WA KickstART Festival is the largest celebration of young people on the Western Australian youth calendar and each year we assemble a group of young people aged 14 - 26 to be the youth voice of the Festival.
As members of the 2021 Youth Week WA Planning Committee you will play a key role in the planning and decision-making for the design and programming of the Festival.
This is your chance to learn what it takes to build and manage a youth arts event, we want you to help design the festival that you want to see. It’s a great opportunity to gain leadership experience in a friendly environment where you can help promote young people’s ideas and experiences to the broader community. Committee members will also be offered an honorarium for their commitment.
ABOUT YOUTH WEEK WA
Youth Week WA is an annual statewide celebration of the positive contributions of young people to our community throughout Western Australia. For over ten consecutive years, the Youth Week WA KickstART Festival has offered young people aged 12 - 26 an extensive range of free workshops, forums, performances, programs, and special events every April.
WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?
As a member of the Planning Committee you will be responsible for:
Brainstorming a theme for Youth Week WA (YWWA)
Participating in programming discussions with the Propel Team and contributing your unique thoughts and feedback.
Attending regular committee meetings, once every 2 weeks.
Facilitating and chairing committee meetings
Facilitating conversations and collecting feedback and information from the KickstART community (a new community consultation initiative)
Assisting in the grassroots promotion of the KickstART Festival
Assisting with running of events and activities as volunteers
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
To be considered for the Planning Committee you must:
Be aged 14 - 26 years
Be willing to learn and contribute during discussions
Be available to attend regular committee meetings
Be available to attend some KickstART events during April
Be passionate about providing opportunities for young people, and be interested or involved in the arts.
If you're familiar with the Planning Committee, you might have realised we're doing things a little differently for 2021. We will only be selecting up to 10 members in the hopes of a more manageable and dedicated group where each individual gains valuable experiences.
If your application is not successful you will be invited to join the KickstART Community, where individuals can still contribute to planning discussions but on a broader scale and with less time commitments.
We highly encourage individuals living in remote or regional communities to register and if you’re worried about time commitments, the KickstART Community might be a better fit for you, so keep a look out for when we release the callout!
KEY DATES
Committee meetings will be held fortnightly from 4.30pm – 6pm starting September to April. Facilitating KickstART Community meetings will be required once every few months outside of the committee meetings.
Applications close 11.00pm on Sunday 23 August.
Successful applicants will be notified and a Committee announced by Friday 28 August.
The first meeting will be a one off induction and team building half-day session, held the following week on Saturday 5 September.
