Sometimes, working in the arts and practicing self-care do not feel synonymous. In such uncertain times, looking after ourselves is more vital than ever.

Led by Dr. Shona Erskine, this informative and experiential workshop focuses on the functionality of stress, mental health, and wellbeing. With an emphasis on how we can support ourselves to integrate self-care skills into our lives with flexibility and compassion.

Topics covered include:

  • The functionality of stress and how particular stressors are present in your life

  • How you respond to stress and how to manage stress

  • How mindfulness, grounding, and compassion align with self-care

  • Physical, psychological, professional, and spiritual self-care

  • What self-care looks like for you.

About Dr. Shona Erskine

Dr. Shona Erskine is a highly skilled psychologist and coach, who has dedicated their work to understanding the complexity inherent in creativity and innovation, and the challenges of expertise and elite performance.

Shona is an expert in delivering psychology for performing and visual artists, as well as production and crew, through professional companies, universities, and in private practice. She has developed curriculum in areas of performance and wellbeing with an interest in disseminating best practice models to performing artist, teachers, and directors.

In her early career, Shona was a professional performer of Australian contemporary dance, touring throughout Australia and New Zealand, Britain, China, Mongolia, Taiwan, Japan, and Germany.

About Pivot

Pivot: Arts admin for sustainable careers is a new program presented by Propel Youth Arts WA that aims to build capacity among young and emerging artists and arts workers in Western Australia to make their careers sustainable and commercially viable.
