Comic Tragics looks at the relationships between words and picture, self and society. Chance and observations about life come to light through the merging of image and words in this moving exploration of new forms of comic and graphic art.

The exhibition has been developed by Curator of Contemporary Design and International Art, Robert Cook, and presents some of the best comic artists at work in the world today: Gabrielle Bell (US), Stephen Collins (UK), Aisha Franz (Ger), Anders Nilsen (US), Tommi Parrish (AUS), John Porcellino (US), Ron Rege Jr (US), Dash Shaw (US), Emma Talbot (UK).

Comic Tragics contains a range of personal stories told through comic and graphic art. They are unguarded explorations of hope, heartbreak, passion and anxiety. Each artist's practice deals with the struggle of what it means to be human. Their artworks step beyond the superhero into the super personal, and sometimes the hyperreal, as the artists push the medium of printed comics in new and challenging directions.

Works are presented in various stages of completion from rough sketch to fully inked, through sketchbooks, finished comic pages, paintings and video, allowing an intimate understanding of their artistic processes.
