PIVOT: Where creativity meets business is designed by Propel Youth Arts WA to build capacity among emerging artists and arts-workers in Western Australia, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to make their creative careers tangible, practical, valuable, nourishing and usustainable
This year’s program includes four weeks of professional development for young people looking to grow their careers within the creative industries. From financial management to working with communities, there is something for everybody.
PIVOT will take place on Tuesdays and Saturdays between 22 October - 12 November across multiple venues offering a range of in-person and online workshops, panel discussions, forums, and the opportunity to network with your local arts community and leaders at a casual sundowner.
Week 1
Saturday 22 October
PIVOT: Where creativity meets business brings Being Collaboratively Creative with Dr Shona Erskine.
The majority of our creative endeavours will require us to work collaboratively with others. In this workshop we will take a look at how to build high levels of trust with your collaborators and how to communicate for shared understanding and clarity. We will have time to explore your own personal questions and build communication skills.

PIVOT: Where creativity meets business brings Making Sense of Money with Kylie Thompson.
One of the most important aspects of running a business is making sure you are managing your finances. Kylie Thompson FCPA of Sorrento Strategic Accounting has been passionately trying to educate artists for over 30 years on Music Money Matters.

We often think that art is just about aesthetics to be enjoyed but art is also a form of communication and education, a way to express identity, and a tool to create social change. How do we develop arts projects with a lens of meaning that creates space for dialogue, skills sharing, and changes in our increasingly complex society?

In partnership with The Blue Room Theatre, the Arts Grant Funding Lab is a two-2 hour workshop program that will provide 10 emerging artists and arts-workers with the opportunity to develop their own creative concepts into funding applications.

Week 3

PIVOT: Where creativity meets business brings Arts Access and Inclusion with DADAA
Arts Access and Inclusion with DADAA will focus on disability awareness, in particular intellectual disability, cognitive disability and autism, ways in making your art accessible for people with disability. The session includes a conversation with young theatre practitioner Adam Kelly and his experiences developing his own touring theatre show. The aim is to provide arts practitioners with tools to create art that promotes social inclusion.

PIVOT: Where creativity meets business brings Know Your Worth with Alise Hardy (NAVA)
Negotiating artist fees can be intimidating when you are starting out, but it can be made easier. Arm yourself with the knowledge and confidence you need to ask for what you’re worth and turn down being “paid” with exposure in this session with Alise Hardy from the National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA).

Participants are invited to close off the PIVOT program with food, drink, and music at The Blue Room Theatre Bar! Come along for networking with Pivot facilitators, participants, friends and Propel.
PIVOT: Where creativity meets business brings Funding Applications 101 with Katt Osborne & Metronet
You have a great creative idea, maybe some collaborators and a bit of a rough plan. But how do you build on this project blueprint? You may want or need some funding to take your project to the next level. In this presentation, The Blue Room Theatre’s Executive Director Katt Osborne along with PIVOT presentation partner Metronet will share some of their essential tips to writing a successful funding application and answer any burning questions.

PIVOT: Where creativity meets business brings Artists' Rights with Marie Foyle (Arts Law)
Join Principal Solicitor, Marie Foyle, in this online workshop exploring your rights as an artist. Learn how to protect your work, how you can get help if you need it and what happens when you make art with other artists. This session uses practical examples, case studies from artists’ experiences and hypothetical scenarios to help artists understand
