Propel Youth Arts WA is looking for a communicator with a creative flair to join our team as part-time Communications Officer in November 2021. The Communications Officer is responsible for building and engaging with Propel Youth Arts WA’s key audiences across print and digital platforms to ensure awareness of and access to Propel programs, resources, and services, helping to ensure that Propel continues to be recognised as the peak body for youth arts in Western Australia.
They will deliver compelling communication and marketing strategies for Propel’s core projects and services, maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders as well as continue to build the brand and positive reputation of the organisation. The Communications Officer will also provide general administrative support, maintain our membership database, publish event listings, assist with volunteer programs and develop online communications via social media, our website, and our fortnightly e-zine.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about young people, has a working knowledge of arts marketing, and is comfortable with using Adobe Suite including Photoshop and InDesign. As Communications Officer, you will play a key role in engaging stakeholders and the general public with WA’s only cross-artform youth organisation.
At 0.6 FTE, or 3 days per week, this role offers flexibility to suit people at different stages of their careers. Whether you are wrapping up your studies and looking to gain experience in the NFP sector, or a parent looking to return to work, or if you’re just interested in working in the arts and culture space, we would love to hear from you!
Essential Selection Criteria
Working knowledge of arts marketing at a local, national, and international level
Demonstrated capacity to create effective marketing and communications campaigns
Exceptional written communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and persuasively with specific audience groups
Demonstrated experience in effective social media management, across multiple platforms
Strong familiarity with using CMS platforms such as WordPress and Squarespace
Experience in creative editing with Adobe Suite including Photoshop and InDesign
Passion for young people and arts in general.

Propel Youth Arts WA is the peak body for youth arts in Western Australia, working in collaboration with artists, communities and organisations to ensure that young people are equipped to inspire arts and culture on their own terms.
Propel is a membership-based not-for-profit incorporated association established in 2003 as the Youth Arts Network and formerly known as Propelarts. Propel acts as the peak body for the youth arts sector, servicing young people aged 12 - 26 by connecting artists, youth workers, practitioners, arts collectives, and communities with relevant organisations.
Providing services and programs across all art forms, we provide access to information, networks, mentoring, skills development, and employment in the arts and creative industries to young people and those who work with them. Propel is focused on arts advocacy, skills development, and access to opportunities, for those already engaged in the arts and those who would like to be.

After the interview process, the successful applicant will be notified by phone and sent a written offer of appointment, with the position commencing from the week starting Monday 8 November 2021. Unsuccessful shortlisted candidates will also be notified via phone.
