Propel Launchpad FAQ

What was in the Launchpad Info Session?

You can check out the information slides here!

How much can I apply for?

You can request $5,000 to help develop your creative project.

Is there an age limit?

Yes - Launchpad is designed to support the artistic development of artists aged between 12 and 26 years old.

What if my project involves people over 26 years old?

While the Launchpad program is aimed at young and emerging artists, we understand that collaboration with individuals over 26 may be beneficial. Please outline the roles and contributions of such individuals in your application.

What if my project has already received funding support?

Projects that have received prior funding for development can be submitted, provided you can justify the need for further development. This program is not for creative projects seeking only re-presentation without development. Projects that have received no or limited financial support will be prioritised over those that have, especially projects that have already received more than $5,000 in cash or in-kind support.

How many projects will be accepted?

8 projects will be accepted into the inaugural Launchpad program.

When will I find out if I'm successful?

Applicants will be notified of the outcome by Friday 27 September 2024.

Who assesses my application?

Your application will be assessed by a panel including WA-based independent artists, industry representatives, and Propel staff.

Why do I need to have a mentor involved in my project?

Mentorship offers substantial advantages for the development of any creative project. Mentors can provide personalised support and critical feedback for both you and your team. Propel will compensate mentors separately from your project’s $5,000 budget.

Can I have more than 1 mentor involved in my project?

Yes, up to 2 mentors can be involved. Please explain how each mentor’s unique skillset will benefit your project and artistic growth.

What am I required to share as part of KickstART 2025?

For the 2025 KickstART Festival, you are invited to present your project in any form that suits its stage of development, such as a workshop, exhibition, panel discussion, performance, etc.

Propel and your mentor(s) will support you in assessing how best your project can be shared within the context of the KickstART Festival, which is a celebration of a work for young people, by young people.

What and when is KickstART?

The KickstART Festival is a week-long youth-driven festival program of free hands-on workshops, artist talks, creative labs, community exhibitions, live performances and other activities - most of which are beginner-friendly. Held as the keystone event of Youth Week WA in the Perth Metropolitan Area, the KickstART Festival has gained a reputation in WA as being young people’s first touchpoint into the Boorloo / Perth arts scene. In 2025, the KickstART Festival will be held from April 10th - 17th.

What support material is required?

Your support material can consist of Creative Documentation such as text, image, video and sound. Consider which of these you want to include in your application that best represents your project. Essential support material includes biographies of your team and a letter of support.

Only submit Creative Documentation that is your work or (with permission) the work of the artists involved in your project.

What is a support letter?

Support letters are from professionals and/or organisations that speak to the applicant and their proposed project to affirm the idea and applicant's experience so far. We recommend asking someone who has worked with you in the creative industries to write you a support letter who can recommend you and your idea.

Please be aware: Support letters that do not directly address the proposed project have limited significance to the reviewing panel.

What expenditure should I include in my budget?

Your budget expenditure should incorporate any item that's needed in order for your project to be developed. This would likely include venue costs, equipment, materials, travel costs, video and photo documentation, as well as marketing and promotional costs.

Please note: All individuals involved in your project should be paid in order for the project to be successful.

Why should I chat with Propel before submitting my application?

A consultation meeting will help you apply your idea within the context of the Launchpad application. Discussing your project can highlight any areas that may need further clarification. If you haven't written an application before, we strongly recommend you talk to one of Propel's team members for guidance and feedback.
