About Talya Valenti
Talya Valenti is a sought-after Perth drummer, known for her creative contribution to diverse artists and projects. Her unique sound, touch and style were developed from her foundations in rock and grunge and her later interest in jazz.
In 2012, Talya completed a Bachelor of Music (Jazz) at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, and in 2017 returned to study and received First Class Honours. Talya’s journey in music led to her interest in gender equality in music, and in 2018 she published her thesis regarding the participation of female-identifying musicians in the Perth jazz scene.
Talya is also an educator and teaches drums privately and in schools, and tutors at both the Young Women in Jazz and Girls Rock! Programs. She has performed and recorded with artists including Stella Donnelly, Megan Washington, Kneebody, Tal Cohen, Artemis Orchestra, Tara Tiba, Bells Rapids and Bolt Gun. In 2018 she was nominated for Best Drummer in the West Australian Music Awards and she received the award after being nominated again in 2019.
Most recently, Talya has been working as a recording and touring session drummer with Stella Donnelly and has played multiple national and international tours and festivals including Splendour in the Grass, Laneway (AU), Glastonbury (UK), Fuji Rock (Japan), Roskilde (EU), Greenman (Wales) and End of the Road (UK). Talya proudly endorses Ludwig Drums and Zildjian cymbals.
About KickstART Virtual
22 - 29 May 2020
For 10 years KickstART has been the flagship event for Youth Week WA, however things are a little different in 2020.
As a response to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent live event cancellations, Propel Youth Arts WA is presenting KickstART Virtual: a week-long online festival of free workshops, talks, and hangouts, specifically tailored to young creative people in WA, and developed by Creative Coordinator Kobi Arthur Morrison with the Youth Week WA Planning Committee.
KickstART takes place on Noongar Boodjar. We acknowledge the ownership and are grateful for the custodianship of the people who originate from the Whadjuk nation. We acknowledge the traditional owners of country throughout Australia. We pay our respect to Elders past and present. We are committed to reconciliation and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.
KickstART Virtual is presented by Propel Youth Arts WA and is funded by the Government of Western Australia through the Department of Communities and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. KickstART is also sponsored by Lotterywest and the City of Perth.
