“A COMPLEX, MOVING, VERY FUNNY, VERY CLEVER SHOW.” STAGE WHISPERS

Black Swan and Perth Festival present a Melbourne Theatre Company production

Virginia Gay delivers a joyful, gender-flipped retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac. Packed with music, wit and aching romance, this reimagining of Edmond Rostand’s classic is a delightfully self-aware, razor-sharp theatrical rom-com.

Cyrano is the most interesting person in any room – a wordsmith, a charmer, a ruthless fighter. She’s fallen for Roxanne: brilliant, beautiful Roxanne – a student of life, with a penchant for poetry and a way with words, just like Cyrano. But Roxanne’s only got eyes for Yan: all-brawn-no-brains Yan, who’s dumbstruck around Roxanne. Until suddenly he starts saying the most amazing things. But it’s not Yan writing these perfect love scenes, it’s Cyrano...

Cyrano is a love letter to hope; to overcoming loneliness and isolation; to language and desire; to the irrepressible magic of theatre – and to the hot mess that is the human heart.
