A defiant Marie Antoinette spends her last days in a rat infested prison cell with a smelly hag and a Catholic peasant girl. The three women form an unusual connection and the plot doth thicken when little Louis pays them an unexpected royal visit. Cake will be eaten and heads will roll in this comedic historical romp. Viva la France?
A Piece of Cake was originally written by Yvette Wall as a flash drama in 2011 and performed with an all female cast of three. In 2014, Yvette revisited the piece and added Louis, giving it a new one act status.
Yvette has had a life long fascination with the life of Marie Antoinette and how she is portrayed in popular culture. She is the girl, the Queen, the disgraced and the beautiful woman. Marie Antoinette has been portrayed as tragic and hilarious. She is a character of reality and fantasy.
A Piece of Cake plays at 7.30pm February 19, 20, 21 and 22 with a 2pm matinee February 22.
