The Peter Fogarty Design Fund was established in 2004 in memory of Dr Jeffery's late partner, Peter Fogarty. Celebrating Peter Fogarty's enthusiasm for design, the Fund allows the Gallery to purchase works by Australian craftspeople and designers not yet represented in the State Art Collection.
This exhibition displays all of the objects acquired through the ten years of the Fund. It includes jewellery by Mari Funaki, Cinnamon Lee, Helena Bogucki and Sally Marsland; furniture by Jon Goulder, Khai Liew, Dinosaur Designs, Korban/Flaubert, Penelope Forlano, Tomek Archer and Christopher Robins; ceramics by Kirsten Coehlo and Robin Best; glass by Jasper Dowding; stationery and vessels by Daniel Emma.
"The Fogarty Fund has been a major platform for ongoing activity and stimulation around the craft and design Collection. The Peter Fogarty Design Collection is a vibrant display of some of the finest craft work in the country.” - AGWA Director, Stefano Carboni.
The first acquisition made through the Fund was Debra Gurney’s plastic Neo-Pop wall piece and the most recent is Dinosaur Designs’ exhilaratingly colourful wall work and table. The items on show are decorative, functional and conceptual; they are all finely and purposefully made with an eye for the combination of material and technique.
“They shift from the homely DIY aesthetic of Allysha Coughlan’s knitted backpacks and the polished modern feel of Korban/Flaubert’s chaise and light, to the finely constructed silver work of Cinnamon Lee. The diversity of approaches is fascinating and reflective of the extremely creative design scene in the country”. - AGWA Curator of Contemporary International Art, Robert Cook
Australian Design: ten years of the Peter Fogarty Fund is not only a memorable tribute to the life of Peter Fogarty but also the perfect accompaniment to the AGWA Foundation’s 25th anniversary celebration. It is an innovative example of how Foundation Members' contributions through the Foundation can vary according to individual passions while creating a lasting legacy for the Gallery.
